Indorama Petrochem operates one of
largest single line PTA plants in the world with technology
from Invista (formerly Dupont). The plant employs the
most advanced technology and has several competitive
advantages such as compact size, improved economics
and reliable production. The PTA plant is environment
friendly and generates energy through a heat recovery
process.
The Indorama team possesses an abundance
of PTA manufacturing knowledge, which is equivalent
to 213 man-years of cumulative industry experience.
Employees have undergone extensive overseas onsite training
at facilities employing the advanced Invista PTA production
process.
The Invista technology is the most
advanced method of PTA production. The key features of
this technology involve excellent safety and operability,
leading environmental performance, most energy efficient
process, increased economy of scale and world class product
quality. The technology affords the following four major
advantages:
 |
Improved economics
through process intensification and process optimisation.
The technology uses Paraxylene oxidation process
and oxidation reactor design through state-of-the
art fluid dynamics and mass transfer modelling.
Thus the process produces premium PTA with lower
raw material, catalysts, and chemical consumption
and less waste generation |
 |
Reliable production
through improved equipment and system designs. At
the same time, this process yields PTA crystals
that meet the strictest purity, colour and flow
property parameters and thus are suitable for every
application of fibre, bottle grade resin and film |
 |
Environment friendly
through use of processes that treat all gas and
liquid emissions to maintain a clean and green environment,
conserve resources and protect surrounding communities |
 |
Energy
saving through use of a fully integrated and
complex heat recovery process |
At Indorama
Petrochem, PTA manufacturing process consists of two
sections, the oxidation section and the purification
section.
Oxidation section: The oxidation
plant is designed for continuous operation and consists
of four sections. In the reaction section, Paraxylene
feed stock is mixed with acetic acid solvent and the
catalyst solution and reacted with air.
Purification section: The crude
TA from the oxidation section contains impurities, which
need to be removed. Removal of impurities is achieved
in the purification plant by selective catalytic hydrogenation
of the CTA solution at an elevated temperature and pressure.
The PTA cake is dried in the dryer and converted into
free-flowing crystalline powder. The PTA is then tested
for critical parameters and once the product is found
conforming to quality requirements it is transferred
to the product silo.
To ensure consistently high product
quality, Indorama Petrochem has invested in advanced
quality control systems and equipment from leading global
manufacturers. The automated QA systems include advanced
process control (APC) and computer integrated manufacturing
(CIM), which keeps a constant watch over product quality
and takes real-time corrective actions in the event
of any process deviations. Vital tests and analysis
are also conducted offline with advanced instruments
to ensure 100 per cent compliance.
