FE Indorama Agro LLC (the “Company”) is one of the largest cotton farm in the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was established in 2018 after the Government started a privatization process for the cotton farming sector in the country. The operations of the Company covers more than 50,000 hectares of land for growing cotton, wheat and other agricultural crops. In addition the Company works with independent farmers to grow cotton on its behalf.

To improve agricultural practices, the Company is introducing fully mechanized harvesting and modern farming practices adopted from Australia and the USA. There is also adoption of a sustainable business model with focus on soil preservation and efficient water use. The Company is also working closely with international advisors to reinforce its best practices.

Indorama has engaged a distinguished group of cotton farming exports to work with its own management to design and implement modern farming practices with the aid of best-in-class mechanical farming equipment.  The areas of focus include use of better seed varieties, land redevelopment, soil management, and water management to prevent soil degradation and improve irrigation and melioration systems.

Cotton fiber has the following properties and is a preferred fiber for high end garments:

  • Good hygroscopicity and breathability;
  • Good tensile strength;
  • Resistant to high temperatures (up to 150 C);
  • Resistant to organic solvents (alcohol, acetic acid, formic acid);
  • Softness;
  • Good tintability.

During the cotton ginning process, harvested cotton is segregated into cotton fibre, cotton seed and other products.

Cotton seeds, a by-product of the ginning process, are used for:

  • Technical cotton seeds as seeds for planting new crops;
  • Non-technical cotton seeds for seed crushing facilities for extracting edible oil from seeds;
  • Feed for livestock;
  • Linter is used for making cellulose for security paper.

Cotton fibers are used for the production of:

  • Textiles and garments;
  • Medical cotton wool;
  • Cotton filler for pillows, carpets, blankets and mattresses
